Dual Monitor Nightmare

BTW, "system/preferences/display" is no longer functional after installing nvidia's proprietary driver, you have to use the nvidia tool instead, that at least is normal. ERROR: Invalid display device DFP-0 specified on line 46 of configuration file '/root/.nvidia-settings-rc' (the currently enabled display devices are CRT-0 on main:0.0). So I switch my cables on the video card which makes my nice 19" monitor the main screen. ERROR: Unable to assign attribute CursorShadowBlue specified on line 24 of configuration file '/home/samzie/.nvidia-settings-rc' (no Display connection). check over here

I've even tried installing envyNG but that never gets past the downloading drivers stage so i give up with that. Many thanks Samzie Last edited by samzie; April 29th, 2010 at 10:35 AM. At the bottom of this page (fair warning, that's my site), have a quick look. After unsuccessfully trying nvidia-glx and nvidia-glx-new packages, I decided to uninstall everything related to Nvidia and restricted drivers from synaptic and try Xinerama with the open source "nv" drivers. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1465119

I'll poke around with it. NO. Dual monitors was quirky. Thanks!

  • Pretty crazy that multi-monitor support is so sketchy considering the fact that at least half of linux users are the sort of "power user" that would want to use them.

I had my HDMI cable connected to the tv, running at 4K 60fps no problem, all good. Again, this is a shot in the dark, but with my configuration so tenuous, I feel hamstrung and hesitate to disturb it for aesthetics, even though that would be a fantastic

Voila, it works! You can click on those images to select the monitor you want to work with, and you can also drag on to the other side of the other monitor, and Windows If i want another, it's just set to panning the TV (=no movies).

I set the TV to use just the one display and when I plug the monitor back in it goes back to the dual-display like it should. No idea why this affected Since this is my work laptop, I'm wondering if I can skip some pain and see if anyone else has had success with multi-monitor (displayport via dock) implementations of linux on I don't have a problem with people cursing and ranting at a corporation like Microsoft.
