But it's no different than a regular scan. You might try googling or see if you can find one on eBay. Unfortunately, that was the only link I could find for a 64-Bit driver.

I HATED my paralell port scanners cuz they were dog slow. JB, I'm a pro photographer with some experience in this area...A dedicated slide scanner for $100? I downloaded driver and unzipped it to c and followed your directions but device manager tells me it cannot find the driver! a compromise at a good price would be 2400 dpi but it depends on what you expect.

says native optical res is 1200 x 2400 dpi resolution and 48-bit scans. I have a Canon A650 too (a couple of generations newer than the 620 he used) so may give that a whirl, since it doesn't require more camera equipment purchases. And if it's interpolating a little to give you 1200 dpi, then that should easily be enough to do some basic pushes without losing any rez. You should do well with yours. If you should decide to go for an older used model, make sure that it has a driver that works in OS 10.4/10.5 and whatever Mac you're using or check to i THINK i'll be happy as long as the speed is ok. Should these steps work even if I enter all steps as su? I can now get into iscan, when I press preview, the "waiting for scanner to warm up" message appears the scanner moves, then it hangs leaving the warming up message.
The quality of the originals were nothing to write home about(taken in the late 50s) but the scanner did what I would call an adequate job. I'd just like to remind folks that jb originally asked for suggestions for a dedicated slide scanner, not flatbed options.In my experience a dedicated film scanner is going to trump any I do notice a longer than before pause when I start iscan but xsane is actually faster and no longer gives me 2 choices for the scanner, before it would give Bruce Gidney :) I have tested both the flabed and TPU using iscan and xsane from Gimp.
